To participate in the Scholarship Program, students will be required to submit short documentary films exploring some aspect of Utah’s energy sector. Four scholarships will be awarded, one to a student in each of Utah’s four Congressional districts, in January of 2017. The $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who intend to pursue a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) related course of study at a Utah institute of higher education.

Beginner's Guide to Filmmaking

Whether you are an aspiring filmmaker or starting from scratch, the Beginner’s Guide to Documentary Filmmaking will provide you with the necessary tools to successfully craft a five minute documentary film.

The guide offers instruction across the pre-production, production and post-production filming process, as well as details on how to upload and submit your film.

Program Details & Timeline


Students who submit by November 18, 2016 will receive free admission to the annual Governor’s Utah Energy Development Summit in May 2017.  The Summit is the largest event of its kind in the Intermountain West, hosting roughly 1,200 attendees from across the nation and around the world.   Attendees will be given the opportunity to learn from nearly 100 industry speakers who address regional, national and international energy and minerals issues.
